Coquitlam is a great place to live and work

The Coquitlam area has been inhabited for at least 9,000 years, and the Coast Salish people named the area Kwikletlem, meaning “red fish up the river” in reference to the salmon that has been responsible for the current commercial and sport fishing on the Fraser River. An early 20th-century influx of French Canadians created Maillardville in the southwest portion of present-day Coquitlam. Port Moody was established in the mid-19th century as a year-round port to service the local lumber trade. Together with Port Coquitlam, at first a farming community established by European immigrants, today’s tri-cities is home to a quarter of a million people.
